Two realistic ways in: fly to Craiova itself, or fly to Bucharest and cover the last 230 km by road.
The short way, when the schedule suits. This winter (from 25.10.2026) there are seven direct destinations, all Wizz Air, and fewer flights than in summer; the list below was checked on 21.10.2026. Summer adds charters and seasonal routes. Everything else through the field is private jets and the occasional charter.
The usual arrival, because Otopeni has the long-haul and the connections. From the terminal it is roughly 230 km and about three hours by road. A minivan collects you at arrivals and puts you down at your door in Craiova — one vehicle, one handover, luggage and all.
Trains run from Bucharest Gara de Nord to Craiova in roughly three and a half hours. Coming from the city itself, that is one journey. Coming from Otopeni it is a detour: the airport is north of the city and Gara de Nord is a separate transfer before the train even starts.
The A1 and DN65 get you down from Bucharest, and Craiova is an easy drive from Sibiu, Timișoara and the Bulgarian border crossings. Car hire desks sit at Craiova airport if you would rather pick the car up here.
Through summer 2026 this site listed 16 airports with direct flights to Craiova: Wizz Air, plus Animawings to Heraklion. For the winter, Wizz Air moved one of its two Craiova-based aircraft elsewhere. Paris Beauvais, Barcelona, Rome, Bologna and Venice stop, with the last flights between 21 and 24.10.2026. Naples and Athens pause for the winter. London Luton drops from 7 to 3 flights a week, Milan Bergamo from 7 to 5, Bari from 4 to 2 and Birmingham from 3 to 2.
